Concerning Increase in Road Accident Victims in the Arab Community Despite Overall Decrease
SadaNews - Data and statistics from the "Road Safety Authority" in the country revealed that the number of road accident victims during the first five months of 2026 reached 176, compared to 192 victims during the same period last year, indicating a 9% decrease in the number of road casualties, following 2025's record-high toll in nearly two decades.
In contrast, the Arab community recorded a significant increase in the number of casualties, with the count reaching 69 by the end of May, compared to 58 during the same period last year, marking an increase of nearly 19%.
Data published on the "Road Safety Authority" website show 67 Arab victims, in addition to 9 victims whose identities have not been determined as of this Monday morning. Based on news reports, it appears that the actual number of Arab victims has reached 69.
Thus, Arabs comprise about 39% of the total road accident victims in the country, a record-high percentage, despite their demographic proportion being around 21% as per official Israeli statistics that include residents of occupied Jerusalem, reflecting the widening gap and the ongoing deterioration of road safety crisis in the Arab community.
