Tamra: Mourning and General Strike on Wednesday and Demonstration on Friday Following the Murder of Young Man Yasser Abu Haija

SadaNews - The Tamra municipality, the popular committee, and the local committee of parents of students in the city announced on Tuesday night – Wednesday morning, a day of mourning and a general strike today, Wednesday, excluding educational institutions and activities, in protest against the murder of young man Yasser Mohammed Abu Haija, which was committed on Tuesday afternoon in the barbershop owned by the victim.

In their joint statement, they said, "This heinous crime is not an isolated incident, but comes within a dangerous policy of neglect and official complicity, as the government and police continue to fail in their duty to combat crime, making them partners in the ongoing bloodshed that claims the lives of our community members day after day."

They added, "In light of this great tragedy and the continued bloodshed in our community, and the violation of shops, homes, institutions, and others, we announce the following steps:

First, on Wednesday, mourning in the city of Tamra and a general strike encompassing various aspects of life, excluding educational institutions and activities.

Second, a call for massive participation in the funeral of the deceased, transforming the funeral into a public march of anger that affirms our rejection of the spilling of our blood and demands an end to these crimes.

Third, on Friday, immediately after the Friday prayers, we will organize a protest demonstration, and the location and details will be announced after the funeral proceedings conclude."

The municipality, the popular committee, and the committee of parents of students in Tamra urged families to widely participate in all activities, "affirming our unity, rejecting the policy of negligence and complicity, and insisting on our natural right to security, safety, and a dignified life," as stated in their announcement.
