Popular Committee in Rahat: Tsvi Sokot's visit will pass by two schools in the morning, and we call for presence in rejection of it
SadaNews - The Popular Committee in Rahat met and, after discussing the developments and decisions related to the visit of Knesset member and Chairman of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, Tsvi Sokot, it became clear that the route of his visit would pass by Al-Najah Secondary School and Ibn Sina Primary School.
The Popular Committee decided to be present today, Sunday, at 8:30 AM next to Al-Najah School, to raise its voice in rejection of this provocative visit and to emphasize that the city of Rahat rejects attempts to exploit its educational institutions to achieve political and inciting agendas.
In a statement, it said, "The invitee Tsvi Sokot is far from the values of education and cannot serve as a role model for our sons and daughters. Rahat, which has produced generations of academics, engineers, doctors, teachers, and qualified individuals, does not need lessons in education from someone known for incitement and provocation speeches."
The Popular Committee in Rahat called on its members, other national and community leaders, and everyone responsible to be present today at 8:30 AM next to Al-Najah School, "to confirm our stance rejecting this visit, reflecting our united position and social responsibility."
The Rahat Municipality had decided during an emergency meeting, in consultation with the local parents' committee and the Popular Committee, to close all schools and educational institutions in the city next Sunday to any public or educational activities, as well as not having staff present in the schools, in rejection of Sokot's potential visit.
It urged citizens to maintain self-control and adhere to calmness, avoiding falling into any provocation, and to allow the relevant authorities to handle the situation in a way that preserves the city's interests, as stated in a statement issued on Thursday.
The Rahat Municipality confirmed that "this visit does not serve the educational system or the interests of the city's students, but rather it is a visit of a provocative nature carrying political and propagandistic objectives, especially since it is taking place without any coordination with the city's leadership or the relevant educational authorities."
In a related context, Sokot made a provocative visit to the city of Umm al-Fahm two weeks ago and attempted to invade schools there under the protection of reinforced police forces, and the visit was met with rejection, popular protest, and disruption of studies in the city's schools.
