Trump Responds to Mamdani: Netanyahu Will Not Be Arrested in the United States

SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested while in the United States, responding to New York City Mayor Zahra Mamdani's declaration that he is seeking legal consultations regarding the possibility of detaining Netanyahu during his anticipated participation in the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.

Trump, in a post on his platform "Truth Social," remarked that Netanyahu "will not be arrested in any way, shape, or form during his time in the United States," adding that he is "fighting against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Trump claimed that Iran "recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters" and has spent the past 47 years killing American soldiers and others.

He further stated that "the only ones who should be arrested are those who have led Iran into an unprecedented spiral of death and destruction," considering that dealing with Iran "should have been done years ago by previous presidents."

In this context, the U.S. President warned Iran that they will pay "multiples" for every American soldier killed, following Washington's announcement over the weekend of the death of three additional servicemen and the loss of a fourth soldier in Iranian attacks.

Trump wrote in a separate post: "Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay a multiple price for it," adding that "Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Daniel Kin, and all military leaders have been informed of this directive."

This stance by Trump came after Mamdani declared in an interview published by the "New York Times" on Saturday that he is in discussions with the New York City legal team about his authority to instruct the police to detain Netanyahu upon his arrival in the city.

Mamdani stated that "Netanyahu belongs in The Hague, as he is a war criminal against whom the International Criminal Court has issued charges," adding that this stance "is embraced by many due to the consequences of his actions over the past many years."

Mamdani acknowledged that he is not yet sure if his legal authority allows him to issue an order to arrest a foreign official, saying: "Whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that is what we will do."

The United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to convene next September at the international organization’s headquarters in New York. Mamdani has previously promised to pursue the execution of arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against officials it is pursuing, including Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The International Criminal Court announced in 2024 that it has reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu is responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in relation to the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip.

In response, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, attacked Mamdani’s statements, asserting that the Israeli Prime Minister will come to New York and deliver a speech before the General Assembly, adding: "If anyone ought to be arrested, it is Zahra Mamdani."
