The Working Group on Palestine of the Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission Issues Important Recommendations to Translate Data and Recommendations into Tangible Action Steps

SadaNews - Ambassador Hadi Shabli, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, participated in the closed meeting of the Working Group on Palestine, which was held via video conferencing as part of the 27th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In his speech, Ambassador Shabli affirmed that the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip form an indivisible geographical unit of the territory of the State of Palestine, outlining the serious deterioration in the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza, which is witnessing ongoing aggression, widespread destruction, forced displacement, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid, alongside the escalating violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. He called for urgent international action to stop the aggression, provide international protection for the Palestinian people, and ensure accountability for the crimes committed.

During his intervention, Ambassador Shabli reviewed the severe human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, including violations against Palestinian prisoners and the escalating violence of settlers, which has resulted in a serious deterioration of the situation.

Also participating in the meeting were Dr. Issam Younis, the General Commissioner of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine, Dr. Dwaas Dwaas, the Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Dr. Mariam Al-Attiyah, a member of the Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission, along with ambassadors from member states and members of the Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission.

Dr. Dwaas Dwaas presented an executive summary report on the reality of human rights in Palestine from January 1 to the end of June 2026.

For his part, Dr. Issam Younis addressed the cases of human rights and the ongoing Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law. He also emphasized the need for coordination between civil society and official entities to work towards achieving justice and upholding human rights principles, stressing that these continuous crimes and violations should not go unpunished.

The meeting concluded with several recommendations aimed at translating the statements and political stances into concrete action steps, the most notable of which is the formation of a delegation to visit international human rights institutions and mechanisms, and regional gatherings, including the European Union and the African Union, to mobilize international support for the Palestinian cause. Additionally, efforts for humanitarian and relief coordination will be unified through the preparation of a draft statement that the Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission will submit to the upcoming meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for adoption, enhancing the humanitarian response towards the Palestinian people.
