European Diplomatic Missions Express Concern Over the Detention of Palestinian Prisoners

The statement pointed out that over 9,000 Palestinians are imprisoned in Israeli jails, including thousands held without charges or trial.

The statement highlighted that human rights organizations have described the prison conditions for Palestinians as harsh and life-threatening, noting food shortages, denial of medical care, and systematic mistreatment.

It stated that detainees have the right to be informed of the charges underlying any detention process, and they should be granted access to legal assistance and subjected to a fair trial.

The statement called on Israel to fulfill its obligations regarding human rights for detainees under international law, including granting the International Committee of the Red Cross immediate access to all detention facilities.

These missions welcomed the recent ruling by the Israeli Supreme Court allowing access for the International Committee of the Red Cross, urging its complete implementation, as mentioned in the statement.
