"We Hope for the Harshest Penalties on the Killer": Final Session Before the Ruling in the Martyr Diar Omari Case
SadaNews - On Sunday, the final session before the ruling in the case of martyr Diar Omari from the town of Sandala was held at the central court in Nazareth. The martyr's family attended alongside the lawyer representing the case and the director of the "Mizan" Human Rights Institution, Omar Khamaisi.
The court listened to the claims of the public prosecution and the defense team for the criminal Denis Mukin, who murdered martyr Diar Omari. The public prosecution demanded a minimum sentence of 26 years in prison for the killer, while the defense team requested a sentence between 14 and 18 years, which the martyr's family vehemently rejected.
The judges listened to the martyr Diar Omari's family, where his mother and father spoke before the judges about their son Diar, and about their difficult life after the martyrdom of their son from the killer's gunfire.
Martyr Omari was martyred on May 6, 2023, after being shot by Mukin following a brawl near the settlement of "Gan Nir" built on the lands of Sandala. An indictment was filed against the killer on June 11 of the same year, charging him with premeditated murder, in addition to other charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and without a driver's license.
The father of the martyr Diar Omari demanded "the harshest punishments for this criminal killer, who took the life of our dear son Diar, as we will not accept a lenient sentence, and we demand the harshest penalties. If necessary, we will appeal to the Supreme Court if this killer is given a light sentence."
The father of the martyr said: "We thank everyone who stood by us in this case, including lawyer Omar Khamaisi, the media that followed the case, and all the members of our people and leadership."
Lawyer Khamaisi stated: "Today was the last court session before the ruling in the case of martyr Diar Omari, during which the public prosecution discussed their request for a minimum sentence of 26 years (in prison), while the defense for the killer argued for a sentence of between 14 and 18 years."
Regarding the announcement of the ruling, Khamaisi indicated that it will be issued in a session scheduled for September 7, expressing hope for "the harshest penalties on this killer, who took the life of martyr Diar Omari and made life very difficult for the family in light of the crime committed by the killer."
