Death of a Mosque Imam in Armed Attack in Southeastern Iran

SadaNews - The governor of the city of Mirjaveh in the Sistan and Baluchestan province (southeastern Iran) announced the death of Sheikh Mohammad Anwar Rigi, the Sunni imam and preacher of the "Ali ibn Abi Talib" mosque in the city, as a result of a terrorist attack carried out by unknown armed individuals.

The governor of Mirjaveh, Mokhtar Mohsen Mobaraki, condemned the attack in a statement carried by the IRNA news agency, considering it aimed at destabilizing security and inciting discord among the people of Sistan and Baluchestan province.

He confirmed that the security, police, and judicial authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, stating that efforts to pursue, apprehend, and punish the perpetrators are underway vigorously.

Mobaraki urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant, to rely on official sources for news updates, and not to allow the incident to be exploited to stir up discord; emphasizing the necessity of maintaining unity and solidarity among community members.

For his part, the representative of the city of Khah in the Iranian parliament, Ali Kord, condemned this "terrorist attack, calling for decisive actions against the perpetrators and their supporters."

Kord described the incident as a "cowardly terrorist attack executed by criminal mercenaries," emphasizing that "such criminal acts will not undermine the resolve of the province's residents who are stationed on the borders but will rather enhance their unity, solidarity, and cohesion."
