Haifa District Court Decides to Release Omar Ighbariah from Um al-Fahm After More Than 4 Months of Detention
SadaNews - The Haifa District Court decided today, Monday, to release the young man Omar Ighbariah (24 years old) from the city of Um al-Fahm, after being detained for more than four months in Israeli prisons.
The defense team, consisting of lawyers Khaled Mohajna and Ruslan Mohajna, refuted the security charges against the young man, which centered around "planning to carry out an act that threatens state security," while Ighbariah underwent interrogation that lasted several weeks.
Israeli forces had arrested the young man from his home in Um al-Fahm on February 15, after raiding the house and vandalizing its contents. At the same time, they arrested several other young men from the city under the same pretext.
The young man is expected to be released today from the court, after spending his detention period in the security section of Megiddo prison.
Lawyer Ruslan Mohajna, who defended Ighbariah, stated that "after spending all this time, and despite the serious charges brought against my client, including security charges related to planning to carry out an act against state security, we were able to obtain a decision for his release."
Mohajna pointed to what he described as a campaign of incitement led by the police and Israeli media against Ighbariah, adding that "my client and a group of young men from the city were arrested as part of this file and were subjected to a fierce incitement campaign from Israeli entities, including the police and media; however, we succeeded today in obtaining a decision that refutes these charges and orders the release of my client."
