The occupation requests the confiscation of a house in Ba'ina Najidat following the arrest of 18 workers from the West Bank without permits
SadaNews - The Israeli occupation police announced this morning, Wednesday, that they have submitted a request described as rare to confiscate a house in the town of Ba'ina - Najidat in the Galilee region, northern Israel, claiming "to have found 18 individuals from the West Bank residing there without legal permits."
According to available information, police forces raided the house and arrested all its residents for questioning, in addition to detaining the homeowner, a 66-year-old man. The police added that "the operation came as part of an intensive campaign to combat the phenomenon of illegal residency."
After completing the investigations, the public prosecutor in Tiberias filed an indictment against the homeowner, along with an official request for the confiscation of the property, considering that "providing shelter for illegal residents can sometimes be exploited as a base for criminal or serious security activities."
The police threatened in their statement that they "will continue to use all available legal means to hold accountable anyone who facilitates the entry or residence of individuals illegally within Israel."
Pursuit of Workers
The Israeli police continue to pursue Palestinian workers under the pretext of "their residence in the country without permits," alongside pursuing their employers and those who provide assistance to them.
Palestinian workers holding permits face difficulties when heading to their workplaces, starting their day very early before dawn and waiting for long hours at the Israeli military checkpoints, where they undergo humiliating and exhausting searches before continuing their way to work.
Palestinians, whether they hold permits or not, seek job opportunities inside Israel due to the scarcity of job prospects in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and because the wages they earn inside are much higher compared to the wages in the Palestinian Authority areas, amid Israeli policies that have weakened the Palestinian economy.
The Israeli police continue their campaigns in Arab towns, in the Galilee, Triangle, Negev, and coastal cities, searching for Palestinian workers from the West Bank, and these pursuits have turned into a daily nightmare for these workers, especially with the participation of special units in the arrest operations.
The police arrest workers from the West Bank and Gaza Strip who have entered Israel seeking a livelihood for their families, while some are forced to sleep in harsh conditions, such as on the ground, in warehouses, or under trees, to maintain their work, amidst the ongoing policy of economic squeezing and hindering development in the West Bank, which suffers from high rates of unemployment and poverty.
