The Arab League warns of the occupation's plans and policies that threaten the security and stability of the region
SadaNews - The Arab League's general secretariat warned against the plans, policies, and practices of the Israeli occupation that violate international law, challenge international will, and obstruct the efforts of the international community for a peaceful resolution of regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, thus jeopardizing the security and stability of the region and the world.
The general secretariat stated in a statement issued by the "Palestine and the Arab Occupied Territories Sector" of the League today, Thursday, that the anniversary of the "setback" this year comes amid the continuation and escalation of Israeli aggression and the threat to regional security and stability through the genocide war it is waging against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and the ongoing implementation of annexation and settlement expansion plans in the occupied West Bank, the comprehensive destruction, and the expansion of its occupation in southern Lebanon, as well as the assault on Syrian lands, in light of the Israeli right-wing government's plans, which are confirmed by statements of its extremist officials about the establishment of what is called "Greater Israel."
The general secretariat emphasized in its statement that the fifty-ninth anniversary of the brutal Israeli aggression on June 5, 1967, against several Arab countries, known as the "setback," led to the occupation of vast areas of Arab land and the killing and displacement of its people, the repercussions, reflections, and catastrophic effects of which continue to escalate to this day due to Israel's ongoing illegal occupation of Palestinian and Arab lands in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the Syrian Golan, followed by the expansion of its aggression and occupation of more lands in southern Lebanon, in a blatant and ongoing violation of all norms, charters, and international resolutions, foremost among them the UN Security Council Resolutions 242 of 1967 and 338 of 1973, which stipulate the withdrawal of Israel (the occupying power) from the territories it occupied in 1967, emphasizing the firmly established principle in international law that prohibits the acquisition of land by force or the threat of its use, and that the only way to achieve security, peace, and stability in the region is to end the occupation of all Palestinian and Arab lands occupied since June 5, 1967, and to realize a sovereign independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the vision of a two-state solution and relevant international legal resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The statement also called on the international community, states, and organizations, to pressure Israel (the occupying power) to stop its aggression and all its illegal actions, withdraw its army from all territories occupied since 1967, halt all settlement activities and evict settlers from the occupied Palestinian lands, and for Israel to pay compensation for the damages caused by its illegal occupation. It also urges the general secretariat to call on all countries not to provide any assistance to Israel that would contribute to the continuation of the occupation, in line with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding the illegality of the occupation and related international legal resolutions, and in commitment to the values of justice and fairness and in the pursuit of achieving just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the region.
