Sources to 'SadaNews': A Hamas delegation arrives in Cairo on Friday to begin new negotiations on Saturday
Exclusive to SadaNews - A delegation from the "Hamas" movement is set to head to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, tomorrow, Friday.
Palestinian sources informed "SadaNews" that the delegation will be headed by Khalil Hayyah, the leader of "Hamas" in Gaza.
The sources indicated that the delegation will begin a series of meetings with Palestinian factions on Saturday, as leaders from these factions are arriving in Cairo within the coming hours and on Friday.
The meetings will discuss the latest developments related to the ceasefire before the "Hamas" delegation holds meetings with the mediators.
The UN envoy Nikolai Mladenov will not participate in those meetings.
Earlier today, the "Asharq Al-Awsat" newspaper reported that mediators from the UN conveyed a message to "Hamas" and the factions that Mladenov would not attend the sessions unless there is a clear and explicit agreement on the disarmament and handover of Gaza's weapons.
Palestinian sources informed "SadaNews" on Wednesday that the leadership delegation of "Hamas" and its Political Bureau had important talks with mediators in Turkey regarding the next phase of the ceasefire agreement.
According to those sources at the time, the visit of faction delegations to Cairo, especially the "Hamas" delegation, is linked to the results of the ongoing meetings in Turkey, indicating that exclusive Egyptian arrangements are being made in preparation for receiving the delegations in the coming days if the outcomes are positive.
The mediators and the "Hamas" leadership are trying to reach a clear agreement, through communication with the administration of President Donald Trump and the UN, in preparation for finalizing it in Cairo, should this agreement be reached.
"Hamas" seeks to reach a clear agreement that obliges Israel to its commitments with a clear American guarantee and under the supervision of a committee to be formed for this purpose, given the lack of commitment from Benjamin Netanyahu's government regarding its obligations, particularly concerning the incomplete items of the first phase.
"Hamas" demands the implementation of the remaining items of the first phase before proceeding to negotiate the second phase, including expanding the operation of crossings, allowing at least 600 trucks to enter daily, halting violations and assassinations, and permitting the entry of construction materials designated for rehabilitating schools and hospitals.
Israel has so far rejected "Hamas"'s requests and insists on disarming it, supported by the Trump administration, which also links, like the UN and its top representative Nikolai Mladenov, the reconstruction of the sector to disarmament.
The roadmap prepared by Mladenov, consisting of 15 items, stipulates the disarmament of all types of weapons in the Gaza Strip, whether factional, tribal, or personal, as part of maintaining law and order, to be delivered to the Gaza Management Committee, not to Israel.
According to sources from "Hamas" who spoke to "SadaNews", the movement has no objection to surrendering weapons, provided that there is a clear stance regarding the path of the Palestinian state that guarantees the rights and constants of the Palestinian people, which has not been clearly specified despite vague discussions about it in Mladenov's document.
The sources noted that there is a consensus among factions that they will support any path toward establishing a Palestinian state, which includes disarming the resistance.
In recent days, "Hamas" has intensified its sharp criticism of Mladenov, accusing him of collusion with Israel and its positions.
"SadaNews" learned that "Hamas" has conveyed clear observations to the mediators regarding Mladenov's positions.
According to journalistic sources in recent days, Mladenov has not decided to participate in the current round until a clear agreement is reached with "Hamas".
