Avoid These 3 Common Habits That Cause Pancreatic Aging
SadaNews - There has been much discussion lately about aging and how to stop or prevent its signs, as scientists are currently conducting studies and research aimed at finding a healthy mechanism to curb aging.
Many believe that aging starts from the heart or the brain, but the truth is that the pancreas, the organ responsible for directly regulating metabolic functions, is the first to be affected by increased loads on it; in other words, it is one of the first organs to suffer from aging.
According to health.mail.ru, Dr. Mark Gadzyan, a specialist in urology, states that the pancreas has two primary functions: producing enzymes for digesting fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, and regulating blood sugar levels through the hormones insulin and glucagon. When it works non-stop or is subjected to fatigue, the metabolic functions and other body organs such as the liver, intestines, blood vessels, and nervous system are affected.
The doctor added that the problem lies in the fact that damage to the pancreas often occurs due to common morning habits that many believe are harmless.
1- Consuming a Sugar-Rich Breakfast
Many start their day by consuming food that may contain sugars, such as flavored yogurt, cereals with milk, chocolate pastries, or white bread, or juices. While this may seem harmless, it actually causes significant harm to the pancreas.
Sugary foods lead to a sharp rise in blood glucose levels, and the body is forced to produce insulin immediately to handle the sugar, which exhausts the pancreas daily.
According to Dr. Gadzyan: "Eating one loaf (of white flour) in the morning causes a sharp increase in sugar levels, as if a person injected themselves with glucose intravenously." Over the years, this exhausts pancreatic cells, reduces insulin production, and increases the risk of prediabetes or diabetes.
The doctor recommends substituting sweet breakfasts with a balanced or protein-rich meal, such as an omelet, cottage cheese, whole-grain bread, unsweetened yogurt, or vegetables, to ensure stable sugar levels and protect the pancreas.
2- Constantly Snacking
Some dietary guidelines encourage eating small meals several times a day, but this is not healthy for the pancreas, as each meal stimulates insulin production, and when the intervals between meals are short, the pancreas does not recover. The expected result appears as chronic exhaustion, drowsiness, and weight gain.
Gadzyan points out that repeated "healthy" snacks like nuts, bananas, or protein bars can be harmful as they keep the pancreas working non-stop. He recommends having intervals of at least 3 to 4 hours between meals, during which water, herbal tea, or black coffee without sugar can be consumed to give the pancreas a chance to rest and restore normal sugar levels.
3- Drinking Coffee on an Empty Stomach
For many, coffee is part of their morning rituals, but consuming it on an empty stomach puts pressure on the stomach and digestive system. Caffeine stimulates the production of gastric juices and increases acidity, as well as raises cortisol levels - the stress hormone - forcing the pancreas to work under increasing pressure, producing enzymes and hormones even without food.
