Turkey Announces Deployment of F-16 Fighter Jets and Air Defense Systems in Cyprus
SadaNews - Turkey announced on Monday the deployment of 6 F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated: "As part of the phased approach to enhance the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in light of recent developments in our region, 6 F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems have been deployed in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as of today (Monday)."
The statement added: "Further measures will continue to be taken based on subsequent developments, if necessary."
Earlier, media sources indicated that Turkey intends to deploy 6 F-16 fighter jets in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The Turkish television channel "NTV" quoted an official from the civil aviation authority of the separatist Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, stating that the aim of the step is "to enhance the defenses there."
