Israeli Supreme Court Approves Displacement of "Ras Jarabah" Village in the Negev
SadaNews - The Israeli Supreme Court has approved a decision to displace the residents of the Bedouin village of Ras Jarabah in the Negev within the territories of 1948.
This came after the court rejected the appeal of the residents against the decision of the Central Court in Beersheba, paving the way for the evacuation of about 500 Palestinian Bedouins from their lands located east of the city of Dimona within three months.
The Israeli Supreme Court's decision effectively indicates that the court has granted "legal legitimacy" to a displacement process that is not based on an existing plan, which the villagers and human rights organizations consider as "entrenching apartheid policies" in the Negev.
Historically, the lands of Ras Jarabah belong to the Hawashle tribe, inhabited by families from the Hawashle, Abu Salb, and Al-Nasasra clans. The village is located within the jurisdiction of Dimona in an area known as "Sha'iriya" or "Markabat al-Hawashle."
