Berri: Lebanon Needs a Tripartite Guarantee Involving Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Iran
SadaNews - Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri stated that Lebanon requires a "tripartite guarantee" consisting of Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Iran, amid ongoing tensions and developments in the south.
Berri added in a press interview that his relationship with Saudi Arabia is good, stating, "Whoever loves Saudi Arabia is loved by the whole world." He also emphasized that his relationship with President Joseph Aoun is excellent, and that communication between them is ongoing despite some differences in political viewpoints.
Regarding the situation on the ground in the south, Berri pointed out that what is happening in the southern villages, including Zawtar al-Gharbiyah, confirms the continuation of Israeli aggressions and the difficulty in achieving complete withdrawal and the return of residents to their homes.
Berri also mentioned that he did not get involved in the war inside Syria, describing that as a position for which he paid a political price in his relationship with Damascus at the time, according to media sources.
Berri had previously stated that what matters now after the summit between US President Donald Trump and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Washington is "the results on the ground and not just the appearance of the meeting."
He said, "The crucial point after this meeting is to establish a ceasefire and withdrawals, which has not happened yet," indicating that "the withdrawal that took place from the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyah on Monday hardly counts as a withdrawal, as the town is very small and was not fully occupied, and that the bombing of houses, civilian neighborhoods, and infrastructure continues, as do the aggressions against the residents at the edges of the occupied villages."
