Prime Minister: Australia Will Raise Its Concerns About Tariffs with Trump

SadaNews - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said today, Sunday, that he will seek to raise the issue of tariffs with US President Donald Trump, following Washington's imposition of new tariffs on trading partners, including Australia, two days ago.

On Friday, the United States imposed new tariffs on goods coming from 60 trading partners, accusing those countries of failing to curb the trade of products made with forced labor, coinciding with the expiration of a temporary global fee of 10%.

The government led by Albanese described these tariffs as unjustified and stated that it seeks to eliminate them.

In response to a question today about whether he would seek to discuss this issue with Trump, Albanese said "definitely."

He added in statements broadcast on television, "We will raise this issue at all levels within the framework of relations between Australia and the United States, and we have already done so."

Under the new measures taken by the Trump administration, imports from Australia, along with 37 other countries, are subject to a 12.5% tariff.

Seventeen countries are subject to a 10% tariff, while five countries face varying tariff rates.
