When the Guardians of Dignity Stand... And Bayt Ummer Asks: How Long Will the Bleeding Continue Without an Answer?
To the Guardians of Dignity… To those who, when Palestine is mentioned, are remembered with awe and pride.
They are not just "security men" but the protectors of meaning and carriers of the oath that is not spoken in words but is written in actions. They are the ones who are dressed in the homeland, not in uniforms, and reside in duty, not in jobs.
To those who, when they stand, align the place, and when they attend, the voice of chaos diminishes, and when they are silent, the law speaks through their features.
You are not mere names in devices; you are the pillars of the Palestinian soul when it leans. You are the hand that prevents the fall and the eye that does not sleep so that people can rest peacefully.
O you who carry a dignity that cannot be taught, and a greatness that cannot be manufactured, and a love that is not declared but practiced every day without noise.
In your homes, there is patience that resembles miracles, and in your chests, there is a fire that cannot be seen but does not extinguish, and in your faces, there is light despite all the fatigue as if you were created to be hope when it disappears.
You guard people’s homes from fire, while walking over the embers of anxiety. You extinguish chaos in the streets, while within you, a thousand unseen battles rage.
And in Bayt Ummer, where bleeding has become a daily language, and where pain has become closer than air, and where the weight of the question burdens and finds no answer befitting the magnitude of blood: "How long, O people?" There, where dignity blends with anger, and pain nearly turns into a rift with all that is beautiful, we say it with pained sincerity: Not everything that happens is bearable, and not everything that is seen can be silent about. Justice cannot be postponed, "and we are tired of you" and dignity is not managed with the logic of tolerance.
And to our people in Bayt Ummer… we say it calmly befitting your pain: You are not alone, "despite our huge reproach towards you" and what you are experiencing is not a fleeting detail in this homeland. Your anger is understandable, and our anger at you is justified. Your pain is heard and our pain from you is great. Your dignity is above all consideration, but you hurt the dignity of the homeland because this homeland that we all carry cannot afford to lose us from within, and cannot bear for its pain to turn into a rupture among its children: "O people!" Let us preserve what remains of the thread that binds us, and make the law our home, and dignity a roof that does not collapse on anyone.
You are there, not as a transient presence, but as a wall of dignity, as an oath standing on its feet, as a concept of a homeland that refuses to be broken.
You are the awe of Palestine when it walks. You are its voice when it chokes. You are its patience when it prolongs. And you are its dignity when it is tested.
If gratitude had a throne, you would sit upon it, and if thankfulness had a heart, it would beat in your name, and if love had a homeland, it would be you as its first address.
We do not praise you, for praise does not befit you, nor do we describe you, for you are greater than words.
We only stand, a stand that befits you, and say:
You are the ones who, if the world tilts, they erect and set it right, and if the homeland constricts, they expand it with their standing, and if the people tire, they carry their fatigue and move on.
Go on, for you are the pride when heads bow, and you are the greatness when things diminish, and you are love when the homeland needs someone to truly love it.
And from you, we hear the message that cannot be written. You do not ask for anything, but your silence says: We are here to guard what remains of meaning, to prevent the collapse, to stand when everyone retreats.
And for you, we have the message that cannot be postponed: We are behind you, our hearts are with you, and your backs are supported by us. We carry this homeland with you, and we guard its idea with you, and we believe that you are the line that cannot be broken.
Go on… and we are with you as the people is with its pulse, and as the homeland is with its true guardians.
