London Stock Exchange Enters the Era of 24/7 Trading

SadaNews Economy - The London Stock Exchange has announced plans to launch a new trading platform named "LSE 24" that will operate around the clock, seven days a week, in a move aimed at keeping pace with the next generation of digital and algorithmic trading, and smart agent-based trading, reinforcing London’s position as a leading global financial center.

This platform is considered one of the most significant developments in the infrastructure of European financial markets this year, opening the door for investors worldwide to trade outside traditional working hours in the United Kingdom.

The LSE 24 platform is designed to support semi-continuous trading from Monday to Friday, allowing investors greater flexibility in responding to market developments, accessing liquidity across different time zones, and managing risks more efficiently.

The platform relies on the infrastructure of the financial markets of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) and operates completely separately from the main market of the exchange, which will continue its activities under regular trading hours.

With this design, the new platform balances the availability of trading opportunities around the clock while maintaining the integrity and stability of existing markets.

According to the announced plan, the London Stock Exchange will make the platform available for client testing by the end of 2026, with the first products expected to launch in the first half of 2027, following the acquisition of the necessary regulatory approvals.

Exchange-traded products (ETPs) will be the first asset class traded on the platform, taking advantage of London's standing as one of the largest global hubs for this type of product, in addition to the growing demand from international investors.

The LSE 24 platform bets on integrating market infrastructure with advanced operational tools powered by artificial intelligence, providing a secure connection that serves the next generation of trading capabilities via agents.

This connection allows clients to interact with market data, manage orders, and execute operations more automatically and smoothly, while maintaining the governance and oversight standards that distinguish regulated markets.

In this context, Julia Hoggett, CEO of the London Stock Exchange and Head of Digital Markets and Securities at the London Stock Exchange Group, stated: "The launch of LSE 24 is a significant step in the evolution of our markets, as it provides clients with flexibility beyond traditional trading hours and supports more digitized and interconnected global markets. By integrating with the Group's digital market infrastructure, the platform will contribute to deepening liquidity, enhancing efficiency, and expanding the participation base, thereby strengthening London’s position as a leading global financial hub."

The group confirmed that it will collaborate with various market participants to contribute to market development and accelerate the adoption of new technologies, as part of a broader shift towards more digitized and interconnected financial markets globally.
