Release of Majd Asadi from Daliyat al-Karmel After Arrest on Charges of Incitement and Glorifying Iran
SadaNews - The Haifa Magistrate's Court decided yesterday, Wednesday, to release artist and activist Majd Asadi (31 years old) from the town of Daliyat al-Karmel, two days after his arrest by the Israeli police on suspicion of "incitement and glorifying Iran through posts on social media."
The police had stopped Asadi for questioning, alleging that he published content considered incendiary, as part of its monitoring of what it described as "violations related to security and public order" in the digital space. During the court session, the police presented investigative materials and requested an extension of his detention, while the defense team demanded his immediate release, asserting that the published content falls under freedom of expression and does not rise to the level of a criminal offense.
After listening to the arguments of both sides, the court decided to release Asadi under restrictive conditions, including a prohibition on posting anything related to the war on social media for a duration of 5 days, a financial guarantee, a commitment not to communicate regarding the subject of the investigation, in addition to other restrictions whose full details were not disclosed.
Lawyer Hadeel Abu Saleh from the "Adalah" legal center, appointed to defend Asadi, stated that "the Israeli police requested to extend Asadi's detention based on a post he made on his Facebook page regarding Ali Khamenei."
Abu Saleh added: "The police claimed that the post, as it addressed Khamenei in his capacity as the Supreme Leader of Iran, is considered aligned with the Revolutionary Guard, a claim that was refuted before the judge, especially since the post did not mention the Revolutionary Guard at all, but rather discussed details related to Khamenei's life."
