US Military Ends Latest Round of Strikes on Iran
SadaNews - The US military has announced the end of the latest round of strikes on Iran.
US Central Command "CENTCOM" stated in a statement that it "targeted Iranian military command centers, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems, with the aim of undermining Iran's ability to continue attacking commercial ships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz."
The statement added that since early May, CENTCOM forces have facilitated the passage of nearly 900 commercial ships and 450 million barrels of crude oil through the strait.
The statement emphasized that US forces "remain on high alert to hold Iran accountable for its unjustified aggression against civilian mariners seeking to transit the strait freely and openly."
The US State Department issued a "worldwide warning" to Americans on Tuesday due to "escalating tensions in the Middle East."
The State Department noted in the warning that: "Given the escalating tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complicated with the possibility of unexpected escalation."
It added: "Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and be prepared for possible flight cancellations."
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran "will pay the price" for killing American soldiers, following the death of several US military personnel during combat in recent days.
The number of American soldiers killed in the war with Iran has risen to 17 in the past few days, with the remains of another soldier under examination.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay a multiple of that price."
He emphasized that "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Daniel Kin have been briefed on this directive."
Trump threatened last week to expand the targets struck in Iran to include power plants, bridges, and to send ground troops to take control of Kharg Island, the main center for Iranian oil exports, and to bomb the "Mount of Ax" nuclear site located underground.
