Popular Committee in Tayibe: Land Expropriation Plans Will Not Pass, We Will Combat Them Legally and Publicly

SadaNews - The Popular Committee for the Defense of Land and Housing in Tayibe warned today, Wednesday, of an escalation in planning policies that target, according to a statement issued by it, the expropriation of large areas of the city’s land, affirming its outright rejection of these plans and calling for the widest possible unity and solidarity to confront them.

The committee noted that among the most prominent of these plans is Plan "76 A", which threatens - if approved - to expropriate about 2,100 dunams of private land, considering this a direct violation of property rights, livelihood sources, and community stability.

It also pointed to the plan for the "4444" bypass road, which aims to expropriate hundreds of dunams and poses a risk of demolition to several buildings. The committee mentioned that the plan saw, on February 16, 2026, substantial progress towards converting it into an official plan ready for implementation, with implications for the land, environment, and lifestyle in the area.

The committee also warned of environmental and health risks arising from the establishment of a crushed rubble dump ("collection station") by the Ministry of Transportation, indicating possible accompanying damages, including environmental pollution, increased heavy truck traffic within the city streets, and the consequent noise and impact on the quality of life and daily safety of residents.

The committee affirmed that these projects represent, in its view, a planning aggression lacking justice and transparency, contradicting the rights of residents to land, housing, and a clean environment.

In conclusion, the committee announced its rejection of all plans targeting land expropriation or harming residents' livelihoods, holding government institutions fully responsible for any repercussions affecting the land or public health or community stability, and confirming its determination to work through all legal and public means to prevent the passage of these plans.
