Mossad Chief Visited Washington to Discuss Iran and Its Nuclear Program

SadaNews - The head of the Mossad, Roman Gofman, visited Washington about two weeks ago, dedicated to discussing the war on Iran and its nuclear program, and coordinating with the U.S. administration regarding negotiations aimed at reaching a nuclear agreement with Tehran.

According to what Axios reported, citing two knowledgeable sources, this was Gofman's first visit to the U.S. capital since taking over the Mossad in June, and it came ahead of the escalation of tension in the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of fighting.

The report indicated that Gofman, who is considered one of the closest advisers to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, held talks with U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe and officials at the White House.

An Israeli source stated that one of the main goals of the visit was to coordinate positions with the White House regarding negotiations with Iran about a potential nuclear agreement, in light of Israeli reservations about the understanding between Washington and Tehran.

The visit, according to the report, came at a stage preceding the renewed escalation around the Strait of Hormuz, followed by the resumption of U.S. military operations that have been ongoing for 11 nights, which gave the talks between the two sides a security and political dimension that extends beyond the nuclear file alone.

Axios mentioned that Ratcliffe was one of the most cautious voices within the close circle of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the memorandum of understanding with Iran.

According to the report, Ratcliffe warned, before the signing of the memorandum, that Iran might interpret the terms of the agreement differently than the American interpretation, particularly the terms related to the Strait of Hormuz.

The report did not provide details regarding the positions Gofman presented during his meetings or whether his visit resulted in new understandings between Israel and the U.S. administration regarding the future of negotiations or the nature of responses to military developments.

Both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Mossad declined to comment on the visit, according to the site.
