Report: Washington Informed Israel It Is Preparing to Intensify Attacks on Iran and Use Strategic Bombers
SadaNews - An Israeli report stated that the United States informed Israel of its intention to escalate its attacks on Iran in the coming days and to use heavy bombers for the first time in the current round, amid Israeli preparations for a potential Iranian retaliation that may include launching missiles towards Israel.
Israel has raised its alert level for a possible direct confrontation with Iran, amid estimates that U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to expand strikes may push Tehran to launch missiles at it, increasing the likelihood of its involvement in the current round.
According to Israel's public broadcasting corporation, "Kan 11," on Wednesday evening, Washington notified Tel Aviv about its plans to broaden the scope of attacks, including executing strikes within Iran using strategic bombers in the coming days.
The report indicated that the United States had previously used strategic bombers during the war on Iran, taking off from Britain and conducting direct attacks within Iran.
The "B-2" strategic bombers are considered the only aircraft in the world capable of carrying and dropping heavy bunker-busting bombs (such as the GBU-57 bomb weighing 30,000 pounds) designed to penetrate depths of up to 200 feet underground or through reinforced concrete.
"Kan 11" estimated that one of the central potential targets for the upcoming U.S. attacks is the site recently mentioned by Trump, known as "Mount Axe," after he threatened in his recent statements to "attack it soon and forcefully."
The report linked the U.S. interest in targeting the site to reports indicating that Israel believes Iran has transferred centrifuge devices and highly enriched uranium to tunnels inside the mountain, with Israeli intelligence informing the U.S. administration about it.
"Kan 11" considered that the introduction of strategic bombers into the current round would mean raising the level of U.S. operations against Iran.
It added that the security coordination between Israel and the United States also aims to enable Tel Aviv to prepare for the possibility that Iran might decide to respond to U.S. escalation by expanding its attacks.
According to the report, Israel is preparing for a scenario of Iranian missile launches towards it, which may lead to the resumption of Israeli attacks on Iran.
The report noted that ongoing preparations in Israel do not necessarily mean that Tehran has made a decision to attack, but they come as a precaution against a broad Iranian response to the increased U.S. strikes.
This comes at a time when Trump has threatened to intensify attacks on Iran, amid a divergence between the diplomatic path led by regional mediations and the possibility of transitioning to a broader U.S. military campaign.
"Kan 11" reported on Sunday that Washington had previously informed Israel of its intention to expand attacks but preferred to keep Tel Aviv out of the escalation unless an Iranian response necessitated a change in this stance.
