The Swedish Parliament Launches a European Initiative to Internationalize the Issue of Palestinian Prisoners and Enhance Its Presence in Legislative Institutions

SadaNews - As part of the escalating efforts to highlight the issue of Palestinian prisoners on the international stage, the Swedish Left Party, today Monday, conducted a symbolic parliamentary event with the participation of all its members in the Swedish Parliament, totaling 22 deputies, along with two members from the Left in the European Parliament. The event aims to shed light on the suffering of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons and to enhance the presence of their issue within European legislative institutions.

Participating deputies raised images of 24 Palestinian prisoners, led by the imprisoned leader Marwan Barghouti, which will be displayed on their seats inside the parliamentary halls for two weeks, in a symbolic gesture aimed at keeping the issue of prisoners present before public opinion and decision-makers. The deputies will also work to disseminate detailed information about the lives of the prisoners and their detention conditions through social media platforms, to raise European awareness of this humanitarian issue.

In a related context, each deputy wrote a personal letter of solidarity to one of the prisoners, which was sent through the International Committee of the Red Cross and the lawyer of the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees, expressing moral support and humanitarian solidarity with the prisoners and their families.

The campaign was joined by several Swedish political leaders, foremost among them the chairwoman of the Swedish Left Party, Nooshi Dadgostar, who affirmed her party's steadfast commitment to supporting the just rights of the Palestinian people, especially the prisoners' right to freedom and human dignity.

This initiative comes as part of a joint coordination between the Swedish Left Party, the General Union of the Palestinian Community in Sweden, the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees, and the Palestinian Prisoner Club, as part of an organized movement aimed at internationalizing the issue of prisoners and showcasing it as a humanitarian and political issue that requires increasing international attention.

They also sent greetings to the freedom prisoners and their families, reiterating their commitment to continue efforts until they achieve full freedom.
