Palestinians in Exile Mourn the Great National Struggler and Released Prisoner Maher Younis

SadaNews - Palestinians in exile express their condolences to our Palestinian people in the homeland and in exile, to the members of the Palestinian national movement, and to the family of the great national struggler and released prisoner Maher Younis, son of the town of Arara in occupied Palestinian territory, and one of the most prominent leaders of the prisoner movement and fighters of Fatah, who passed away after a few years of gaining his freedom, following an extraordinary struggle during which he spent forty years in the prisons of the Zionist occupation, steadfast in his principles, resilient in the face of policies of oppression, isolation, and abuse, without allowing his years of imprisonment to diminish his determination or his belief in the rights of his people for freedom and independence.

The late Younis embodied, over four decades of imprisonment, a national school in steadfastness and will, and he became one of the most prominent symbols of the Palestinian prisoner movement, a testament to the inability of the occupation to break the will of the fighters or to detach their belonging to Palestine. His struggle will remain a shining mark in the history of the Palestinian national movement, a timeless symbol of sacrifice, loyalty, and belonging.

The Zionist occupation had released the released prisoner Maher Younis on January 19, 2023, after the completion of his sentence, yet it continued its oppressive practices against him, in a desperate attempt to deprive him and his people of celebrating his freedom, in a renewed confirmation of the colonial nature of this occupation and its policies based on oppression and terror against our people.

The Palestinians in exile, who are an integral part of the Palestinian national movement and a key partner in the national struggle, affirm that the passing of the struggler Maher Younis will only increase their determination to continue the political and national struggle in defense of the steadfast national rights of our people, foremost among them freedom, return, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. They also renew their commitment to continue working in various international arenas in support of our people's steadfastness, the support of our prisoners, and enhancing the presence of the Palestinian issue in regional and international forums until the end of the occupation.

For his part, member of the Palestinian Central Council Mounther Marai expressed his deep sadness over the passing of the great struggler Maher Younis, conveying on behalf of the Palestinians in exile the warmest condolences and sincere sympathy to his honorable family and to our Palestinian people, emphasizing that Palestinians in exile will remain loyal to the promise that the martyrs, prisoners, and fighters have forged with their blood and sacrifices, and that they will continue to perform their national role in defending the freedom of Palestine, supporting the prisoner movement, and rallying international support for the legitimate rights of our people until the liberation of all prisoners and the end of the occupation and the realization of freedom and independence.

May God have mercy on the great national struggler Maher Younis, grant him a spacious abode in paradise, and inspire his family, comrades, and our Palestinian people with patience and solace.

Glory and immortality to the martyrs of Palestine, freedom for the prisoners, and victory for our Palestinian people in the battle for freedom and independence.
