Bar Association: Prisoners are subjected to the harshest forms of torture and suffering
SadaNews - The Palestinian Bar Association stated in a press release issued this morning that the continuous and intense torture in various forms being practiced by the occupation authorities against Palestinian prisoners inside the prisons and the oppressive cells reflects a mentality that engages in organized crime, utilizing all resources to diversify the tools and methods of oppression, torture, and degrading treatment without the slightest concern for international treaties, agreements, and references.
The Association pointed out that the video clip published yesterday regarding the direct threat by the minister in the Israeli far-right government against the leader prisoner Marwan Barghouti inside his cell is a direct reflection of this organized policy and a long extension of the series of crimes committed against prisoners in light of the martyrdom of dozens of prisoners inside the prisons in less than two years.
It added that the so-called Israel Prison Service diversifies its tools of torture and oppression on the reality and lives of prisoners inside these inhumane confinement areas, extending to tighten the noose on lawyers communicating with their clients among the prisoners and depriving dozens of lawyers of the right to visit, including banning the prisoner from receiving reassuring family messages from his lawyer.
The Association demanded that, in light of this systematic violation by the occupation authorities of international agreements, especially the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions, and considering that this behavior constitutes complete criminal acts, the international community and its institutions must bear their legal and moral responsibilities towards what is happening to stop this ongoing bleeding of pain, continuous torture, and slow death of thousands of prisoners, emphasizing that international justice must take its fair path to safeguard its values and principles in the face of this unimaginable injustice, noting that the continuation of these practices without deterrent represents a direct threat to the international system and its existence, which has now become a subject of doubt among various societies in its ability to achieve and protect the minimum objectives of its fundamental human rights considerations that require protection and care.
