Urgent Warnings During Escalation: Safety First Above All Considerations

Vigilance is essential, as danger often comes from a false sense of security. This is a phrase we frequently repeat, but in times of escalation, it turns into a rule of survival. With waves of rockets being launched from Iran towards Israel, and parts occasionally landing in areas of the West Bank like Salfit, Shuqba, and around Ramallah, the responsibility is doubled, making adherence to safety instructions an imperative that cannot be neglected.

In such circumstances, it is crucial to stay at home and only go out when absolutely necessary and urgent. Moving between areas poses a real risk, as streets are exposed and lack protective measures, and any shrapnel or explosive objects may fall without direct warning. Safety begins with minimizing unnecessary movement and avoiding open areas.

There is also no justification for the rush to buy supplies or stockpile fuel and gas. Everything is abundantly available, and panic does not create safety but rather amplifies the danger. Lining up in queues at gas stations or distribution centers creates large gatherings that can quickly turn into dangerous points, especially in wartime conditions where crowds are more susceptible to injury during any emergency.

This phase requires calmness, discipline, and avoidance of unnecessary friction, problems, or gatherings. It is preferable to observe Ramadan rituals inside homes, fostering a spiritual atmosphere in a safe environment away from streets and crowds. Preserving life takes precedence over any activity that can be postponed.

The warnings reaching citizens via text messages are clear in their content: do not go onto the rooftops, and seek shelter in the safest area within the home, away from windows and glass facades. Nevertheless, reality sometimes surprises with scenes of people opening windows or rushing to rooftops to watch rockets and explosions. Such behavior is not bravery, but rather a reckless gamble, as shrapnel can fall anywhere.

Typically, sirens precede the arrival of rockets and can be heard in most areas of the West Bank; at that moment, one must take shelter immediately without hesitation. Although there are no fortified shelters in the West Bank, remaining indoors in a low area away from sources of danger remains the safest option. In contrast, there is strict adherence to the instructions on the Israeli side, where residents head directly to equipped shelters, reflecting a culture of preparedness in dealing with emergencies.

The fireballs in the sky and the echoes of explosions are not scenes for curiosity, filming, or boasting; they are real dangers that can change the lives of entire families in moments, and it is unwise to expose ourselves or our children to random rockets and shrapnel out of curiosity.

In times of escalation, wisdom is the highest form of courage, including staying at home, avoiding gatherings, refraining from random stockpiling, and not going onto rooftops; all these are simple behaviors that make a difference between safety and danger. Today, responsibility is both individual and collective, and protecting our lives begins with the awareness of each one of us.
