Italy Raises Alert Level to 'Red' with Deadly Heat Wave
SadaNews - Last night, Italy raised its readiness level to "red alert" in 14 cities as the heat wave continues to sweep across Europe.
According to the Italian news agency "Adnkronos", the Health Ministry's warning stated that high temperatures pose an imminent danger, particularly to the elderly, infants, and the most vulnerable groups.
Italy employs a three-tier warning system: yellow for early alerts, orange for potential danger, and red, which indicates that the heat now threatens the health of all citizens without exception.
On another note, official statistics from 7 European countries revealed approximately 14,000 deaths exceeding the normal rate during last June's wave, along with about 2,200 additional deaths reported by the UK Met Office between the 18th and 28th of the same month, and these figures are still preliminary and may rise as new updates come in.
