Under the Slogan "Pillar of the House".. A Demonstration in Beersheba Against Demolition and Displacement Policies in the Negev

SadaNews - A demonstration titled "Pillar of the House" has just started in front of the so-called "Bedouin Settlement Authority" headquarters in the city of Beersheba. It is attended by residents, leaders, and political activists from the Negev region, particularly from the Arab community, protesting against Israeli policies and the demolition of Arab citizens' homes in the Negev, in the southern part of the country.

The demonstration was organized by both the Higher Steering Committee of Arab Residents of the Negev and the Committee of Heads of Bedouin Local Authorities in the Negev, along with the Regional Council for Unrecognized Villages. The call for the demonstration came from the protest tent in Tel Arad last Saturday during a community meeting and day of solidarity with the village.

Participants raised banners demanding justice for Arab citizens in the Negev. Some of the banners read: "The Negev is for its people and owners," and "No to the demolition of homes, yes to our right to housing."

The demonstrators also carried signs listing the names of several villages threatened with eviction or demolition, or that are facing continuous campaigns, including: Tel Arad, As-Sir, Wadi al-Khalil, Umm al-Hiran, and Al-Araqib.

The organizers and participants in the movement emphasized that the assault on these villages and towns impacts the social fabric and living stability of citizens, increasing their suffering amid demolition and eviction policies.

This protest step comes as part of a series of popular and activist activities aimed at conveying the "Voice of the Negev" and enhancing resilience and attachment to land and future, in the face of Israeli policies aimed at land confiscation and concentrating Bedouin populations in the smallest possible area, in favor of settlement expansion projects.
