Demolition of a House in Iblin on the Grounds of Unauthorized Construction

SadaNews - Israeli construction and organization committees' machinery demolished a house in the town of Iblin in the Galilee region on Tuesday morning, claiming it was built without a permit, under the protection of enhanced Israeli police forces.

According to testimonies from residents of the town, the demolition targeted a house located near the Abu Shehab neighborhood, amidst a state of discontent and anger among the locals who affirmed that the homeowners had made continuous efforts to obtain the necessary permits but faced difficulties that prevented them from doing so.

Residents pointed out that the demolition is part of an ongoing policy targeting homes in Arab towns under the pretext of unauthorized construction, amid a chronic urban planning crisis and a shortage of structural and detailed maps that allow for urban expansion and facilitate the issuance of permits.

The demolition comes in the context of a marked escalation in Israeli authorities' actions against Arab homes in Arab towns, through intensifying demolition orders and opening files related to unauthorized construction, alongside an increase in cases of self-demolition that homeowners resort to in order to avoid hefty fines and demolition costs that can reach hundreds of thousands of shekels.

Observers confirm that these policies coincide with the continued restrictions imposed on urban development in Arab towns, as the planning and building committees and the Ministry of Interior refrain from expanding building areas and approving a number of structural and detailed maps, exacerbating the housing crisis and limiting the possibilities for legal construction for residents.
