Sudan.. Dozens Killed and Wave of Displacement from Kordofan during Eid Days

SadaNews - Dozens of people were killed in two separate attacks in North and West Kordofan states in Sudan within 48 hours during Eid al-Adha, according to a statement from a rights group concerned with documenting war violations and local sources. The International Organization for Migration announced yesterday, Sunday, the displacement of 2,245 people from South Kordofan state over the past three days due to the deterioration of security conditions.

The "Emergency Lawyers" group stated in a statement on Sunday that 10 people, including eight children and two women, were killed in a drone attack that targeted an area housing displaced persons in the village of Kadam in West Kordofan last Saturday.

It noted that "the victims had fled from the Abu Kershula area in South Kordofan to Kadam in search of safety before being targeted at their displacement site" in the state under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.

The group did not specify the party responsible for the attack, but confirmed that "it occurred in a civilian area that does not witness military operations and has no military manifestations," reflecting "the expansion of violence to include displacement areas."

In North Kordofan state, a tribal leader reported yesterday, Sunday, that 57 people were killed in a drone attack by the Rapid Support Forces on Friday in the village of Al-Marra in the West Bara locality.

The frequency of drone attacks in Sudan has increased in recent months, with sometimes a single attack causing dozens of deaths.

Tom Fletcher, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, stated that "about 700 civilians were killed in drone strikes during the first three months of this year."

The war, which has entered its fourth year, has left tens of thousands dead and displaced millions both inside and outside the country, leading to the spread of famine in some areas of Darfur and Kordofan.

Khartoum Accuses the Rapid Support Forces

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of the horrific massacre committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia in the regions of Um Saadon and Al-Marra in North Kordofan during the second day of Eid al-Adha, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of innocent civilians and injuries to others with varying degrees of wounds.

The statement read: "The Government of Sudan holds the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militia and those who support it regionally and internationally fully responsible for this crime and its ensuing humanitarian consequences," emphasizing that "the ongoing military, financial, and logistical support to the militia directly contributes to enabling it to continue committing more crimes and violations against the Sudanese people."

Wave of Displacement

Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration stated in a statement that its field teams monitoring displacement estimate the number of displaced persons from the cities of Kadugli and Delanj and villages belonging to the city of He-bila in South Kordofan - between May 28 and May 30 - to be up to 2,245 displaced individuals.

It added that the displaced are heading to North Kordofan, White Nile, and Khartoum states, confirming that the situation remains tense and volatile, noting that it would continue to monitor developments closely.

According to the latest statistics from the International Organization for Migration released on February 11, more than 132,000 people have been displaced from the three Kordofan states (North, West, and South) since October 25, 2025.

Alongside the Darfur region and the Blue Nile area, the three Kordofan states have been witnessing clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since October 25.

Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been in conflict due to a disagreement over integrating the latter into the military establishment, resulting in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, casualties in the tens of thousands, and the displacement and refugee status of around 13 million people.
