Governor Hmaileh inaugurates the updated emergency department at Jericho Hospital

SadaNews - Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Dr. Hussein Hmaileh, inaugurated today, Wednesday, the updated emergency department at the Jericho Government Hospital after completing restoration and rehabilitation works at a cost of nearly half a million shekels, with support and donations from Palestinian businessman Youssef Reyhan. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Jericho, Khader Al-Walji, the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Taysir Hamida, the hospital director, Riyad Eid, the medical director, Dr. Nidal Bakr, alongside several directors of security and civil institutions and dignitaries.

The development works included rehabilitating walls, ceilings, and floors, updating medical equipment, in addition to increasing the department's capacity by adding two beds, bringing the total to 13 beds. It also included the establishment of two rooms; one for critical cases and the other for triaging patients, which contributes to improving the quality of medical services provided to citizens.

Governor Hmaileh affirmed that the opening of the emergency department comes as part of the hospital's development plan and according to the highest specifications and standards, appreciating the role of donors and businessmen in supporting the health sector and serving the people of the governorate. He also praised the efforts of the hospital management and the medical and administrative teams, emphasizing the importance of continuing the work and commitment despite the difficult circumstances and financial challenges faced by the Palestinian National Authority due to the practices of the occupation.

Hmaileh pointed out that Jericho Hospital includes advanced medical equipment and devices that rival those of major hospitals, while also noting the needs and shortages in some medical staff and medications, calling on the Ministry of Health to work on providing them and enhancing the hospital's capabilities.

For his part, businessman Youssef Reyhan stated that his contribution to supporting and developing the hospital stems from his religious, national, and humanitarian duty towards his people, affirming that serving patients and supporting the health sector is a collective responsibility that requires everyone’s solidarity, especially in light of the current circumstances and challenges. He indicated that these initiatives enhance the values of giving, solidarity, and national belonging.

Meanwhile, Jericho Hospital Director Riyad Eid confirmed that the opening of the emergency department after restoration and rehabilitation works is an important step towards improving health services provided to citizens, appreciating the support of the Palestinian businessman who contributed to implementing the project, and noting that developing the health sector comes in response to the increasing needs of citizens and improving the level of medical care.

In turn, Medical Director Dr. Nidal Bakr clarified that Jericho Government Hospital continues to provide high-quality health services, explaining that the hospital serves more than 52,000 citizens from the Jericho and the Jordan Valley governorate, in addition to nearly 70,000 citizens from areas of Eastern Jerusalem, including Al-Eizariya, Abu Dis, Al-Sawahra, Anata, and Al-Za'im, amid citizens' tendency towards Jericho Hospital due to the restrictions and closures imposed by the occupation on Jerusalem.
