Palestinian Delegation Headed by Sheikh Meets Turkish President

SadaNews - Today, Tuesday, a high-level Palestinian delegation headed by the Vice President of the State of Palestine, Hussein Sheikh, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Palestinian delegation included: President of the National Council Roahi Fattouh, head of the Palestinian Intelligence Service Major General Majid Faraj, the President's advisor for diplomatic affairs Magdi Khalidi, and Palestine's ambassador to Turkey Nasri Abu Jish.

The Vice President conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas's greetings to President Erdoğan and the Turkish people, appreciating Turkey's consistent political positions supporting the legitimate Palestinian rights to freedom and independence, and providing humanitarian aid.

The Vice President briefed the Turkish president on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing the importance of proceeding with ending the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, preventing displacement, moving towards reconstruction in the sector, and pressing for an end to all unilateral actions that violate international law in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, halting settlement activities and settler terrorism, releasing withheld Palestinian funds, stopping the assaults on Islamic and Christian sanctities, and preventing worshippers from reaching them, and moving towards a political process based on international legitimacy to end the occupation and realize the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Sheikh stated: "We express our strong condemnation of the approval of the law to execute Palestinian prisoners, which constitutes a blatant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention that guarantees the rights of persons under occupation, and a violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, stressing that this law will not succeed in breaking the will of our people and their struggle for freedom and independence, demanding that international community institutions assume their responsibilities regarding the war crimes that the Palestinian people face daily at the hands of the occupation."

The Vice President also reaffirmed the Palestinian stance condemning Iranian attacks on Gulf states, Jordan, Turkey, and other countries, stressing the importance of maintaining the sovereignty, security, peace, and stability of these countries and everyone in the region.

For his part, the Turkish president reiterated his country's firm and principled position in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and realizing their independent state with Jerusalem as its holy capital.

During the meeting, the latest developments in the region were discussed, as well as ways to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in addressing matters of mutual interest, in addition to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
