Fatah – Italy Region Commemorates the 61st Anniversary of the Palestinian Revolution under the Italian Parliament Dome

SadaNews - On January 22, 2026, the Palestinian National Liberation Movement "Fatah" – Italy Region commemorated the 61st anniversary of the start of the contemporary Palestinian revolution in an unprecedented national and political event, the first of its kind in the history of Europe and Italy, held under the dome of the Italian Parliament.

The event was organized by the Fatah Movement – Italy Region, with the participation of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Italy, and a wide attendance from members of the Palestinian and Arab community, alongside Italian political, party, trade union, and parliamentary figures.

The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthems of Italy and Palestine, and the Fatah Movement's Secretary of the Regional Committee in Italy opened the event with a speech discussing the initiation of the contemporary Palestinian revolution in 1965 and its national implications, reviewing the Palestinian struggle and the sacrifices of the Palestinian people for freedom and independence.

In his speech, the Secretary called on the Italian government for official recognition of the State of Palestine, urging Italy to fulfill its political and moral responsibilities, and to make a genuine and effective effort to stop the ongoing genocide against our Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, which is manifested in killings and destruction, a suffocating blockade, starvation, and leaving civilians to face severe cold, while preventing the entry of humanitarian aid and reconstruction, in addition to the continuous bombardment carried out by the Israeli occupation.

He emphasized that what the Palestinian people are enduring is a continuous and systematic crime that requires urgent international action and real pressure to stop the aggression, protect civilians, and ensure respect for international humanitarian law.

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Italy also delivered a speech affirming the importance of the anniversary as a lever for Palestinian national struggle, addressing the current political situation and the serious challenges facing the Palestinian cause amid the ongoing Israeli aggression.

The event was moderated by brother Yusuf Salman, head of the Palestinian community in Rome and coordinator of Palestinian communities in Italy.

The event witnessed prominent Italian political attendance, including Massimo D'Alema, former Prime Minister of Italy, along with representatives from the Italian Democratic Party, the Five Star Movement, the Revolutionary Communist Party, the Italian Communist Party, the Green Party, representatives from Italian trade unions, a large number of members of the Italian Parliament, mayors, as well as representatives from Italian solidarity movements, Doctors for Gaza, the Italian Veterans Association (ANPI), and representatives from the Islamic community in Italy.

Also participating in the event were members of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah Movement:
Brother Muhammad Al-Liham, who spoke about the overall political situation and the challenges facing the Palestinian national project,
and sister Fatwa Barghouti, who highlighted the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation jails and the international campaign demanding the release of the imprisoned leader Marwan Barghouti.

The ceremony hall was adorned with the flags of the State of Palestine and the flags of the Fatah Movement, and Palestinian keffiyehs were distributed to the attendees, in a scene that reflected the deep solidarity with the Palestinian people and the justice of their cause.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation to escalate political and popular action in Italy and Europe, and to enhance efforts supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is supporting the campaign for the release of Palestinian prisoners, led by the commander Marwan Barghouti, and to continue the struggle until achieving freedom and independence and establishing the independent Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem.
