The Central Elections Commission Continues to Implement Its Awareness Program in Preparation for the 2026 Local Elections
SadaNews - The Central Elections Commission continues to implement its awareness and educational program as part of its preparations for the 2026 local elections. In collaboration with its partners from official institutions, civil society organizations, municipal and village councils, and universities, the commission has conducted over 60 field awareness workshops since the campaign launched at the beginning of this year, with approximately 2,500 citizens participating from various governorates.
These activities focused on enhancing knowledge of the electoral process and the new local elections law No. 23 of 2025, as well as clarifying the stages of registration, candidacy, voting, and the women's quota, in addition to instilling a culture of community participation as a fundamental pillar in building democratic local governance. This is in preparation for the local elections scheduled to take place on April 25, 2026, across 420 local bodies, including 136 municipal councils and 284 village councils.
The awareness workshops targeted a wide and diverse range of community segments, including youth, women, students, journalists, influencers, political party members, local council heads and members, government and security institution employees, civil society organization representatives, chambers of commerce, retirees, and volunteers.
The commission also held special coordination meetings with local governance, education, and civil affairs directorates, security agencies, and official media to unify efforts and enhance institutional integration to provide a supportive environment for a fair and transparent electoral process.
The Central Elections Commission confirmed that these efforts align with its vision aimed at reaching all segments of society without exception and ensuring an electoral process based on the principles of transparency, participation, and national responsibility. The commission emphasized the continuation of its awareness activities to encourage citizens to register before the deadline on January 24, 2026, in preparation for the transition to the publication and objection phase and then to receive candidacy applications according to the provisions of the law, noting that registration is available through the commission's website elections.ps. Field registration will commence on the 20th of this month at the local council offices and election commission offices in all governorates of the West Bank.
