A member of the Revolutionary Council of Fatah condemns the arrest of Venezuelan President Maduro and holds the United States and Europe responsible for international bullying policies
SadaNews - Bassam Zakarneh, a member of the Revolutionary Council of Fatah, stated that the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife constitutes a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law and represents a new chapter in a long series of dominance and foreign intervention policies targeting independent nations and their peoples. He added that this step reflects the political bullying practiced by the United States for decades, pointing to its actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, which left comprehensive destruction, the collapse of state institutions, and hundreds of thousands of victims without any real international accountability. Zakarneh confirmed that American policies have not been limited to military occupation but have extended to economically subjugating nations, plundering their resources, imposing guardianship over their political decisions, in addition to assassinating presidents and leaders and kidnapping anyone who opposes its policies or refuses to comply with its dictates, in a blatant violation of all international laws and norms. He noted that the United States bears direct responsibility for sponsoring the genocide that the Palestinian people in Gaza are facing through its unlimited political and military support for the Israeli occupation, asserting that the international silence on these crimes is a stain of shame on the forehead of humanity. In the same context, Zakarneh affirmed that the arrest of Maduro once again reveals the Security Council's failure to fulfill its role in protecting international peace and security, calling for urgent action from the council and major countries to put an end to these violations and ensure respect for the independence and national sovereignty of states. Zakarneh called on the Venezuelan people, in all their components, to maintain cohesion and unity in facing policies of bullying and extortion, asserting that true strength lies in national unity and defending sovereignty, and that peoples who maintain their independence are capable of thwarting all plots, no matter how powerful they are. He also praised President Nicolás Maduro's steadfast positions and his continued support for Palestine and the free people of the world, considering that targeting him is part of punishing everyone who stands with just causes and refuses to submit to dominance. Zakarneh did not neglect to point out the European stance and its practice of double standards, stating that the European Union often raises slogans of democracy and human rights but ignores blatant assaults on the national sovereignty of peoples that do not align with its or its allies' interests. He added: "Europe's condemnation of others is just selective rhetoric while it turns a blind eye to the crimes of occupation, siege, and systematic assaults against independent states, and this contradiction puts its credibility at stake." Zakarneh concluded his statement by affirming that the free people of the world will stand with the Venezuelan people and with the right, saying: "History has taught us that oppression does not last and that free peoples are capable of breaking the policy of arrogance and bullying. From Venezuela to Palestine, the struggle is one and justice will prevail no matter how long it takes."
