Kafr Qara: Public Meeting to Discuss Opposition to Plan Threatening About 2500 Dunams of Land

SadaNews - A large public meeting was held last night, Saturday, at the People’s House in Kafr Qara in the Wadi Ara region, to discuss the upcoming steps and opposition to the plan "Tamal/1116", which threatens about 2500 dunams of land, including agricultural areas, homes, commercial interests, and infrastructure in the western part of the city.

The meeting was called by the popular committee in Kafr Qara, as part of a series of meetings since the announcement of the plan, to discuss the upcoming protest steps. It is noted that the plan threatens parts of residents' homes, walls, and commercial interests, and confiscates about 35% of each citizen's parcel.

The citizens discussed the planned protest steps, including approaching the judiciary, in addition to the submitted objections, and giving the municipality a chance to cooperate. If it does not respond, the residents will resort to various protest steps, including setting up protest tents in front of the municipality and holding demonstrations.

The residents also discussed the possibility of raising donations to contract with a specialized law firm to submit the objections, in addition to filing a legal petition on behalf of all the objectors to the plan through unified collective action.

Member of the popular committee in Kafr Qara, lawyer Rashid Musallaha, stated that "we addressed a number of points in the meeting, including what the enforcement authority has done by distributing warnings to citizens that they will face legal actions against them within 60 days. After that, a common formula was reached with the municipality to freeze the orders until early April 2026. We see that the text of the message is unjust and puts us at risk after the time frame."

He added, "We extend our hands for cooperation with the municipality and the relevant authorities. We want to do so and do not oppose it, but if there is no response to us, we will have to take popular and peaceful protest steps."

Lawyer Muhammad Yahya emphasized that "it is important for all residents to be united in light of this plan which harms the residents, so it is important to comply with all the steps taken, including the legal ones."

He stated that "the municipality carried out this plan without involving the public, which contradicts the law that stipulates public involvement, especially since the 'Tamal' plan is being implemented on the private lands of citizens."

Yahya affirmed that "the uprooting of citizens from their lands is completely rejected, so we want to find solutions for the residents and reject this plan that harms them."
