Fatah - Italy Region: President Abbas's Visit is an Important Political Milestone in the Palestinian Diplomatic Movement
SadaNews - The Fatah Movement - Italy Region confirmed that President Mahmoud Abbas's (Abu Mazen) visit to the Italian Republic represents an important political milestone within the framework of the Palestinian diplomatic movement on the European stage, carrying clear political messages that enhance the status of the State of Palestine and its legitimate leadership.
On the sidelines of the meeting, which brought together the President with wide participation from various political parties and spectrums of the Italian government and opposition, representatives from the Italian Solidarity Movement, representatives of Islamic communities, the Old Revolutionaries Organization, and Doctors for Gaza met in the capital, Rome, along with representatives of the Palestinian communities in Italy.
Dr. Yusuf Salman participated in the meeting, representing the Palestinian communities, along with the secretary of the Fatah Movement's Italy region, Dr. Imad Ali, and the attendance of the esteemed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Italy, Dr. Mona Abu Amara.
The meeting discussed the Palestinian vision for the upcoming stage and the necessity of intensifying political and diplomatic efforts to pressure for the recognition of the State of Palestine, alongside escalating popular actions and demonstrations supporting Palestinian rights in Italy, and emphasizing the central role that Italy could play within the European Union and the importance of coordinating its positions with other EU countries in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
During the meeting, President Mahmoud Abbas granted honorary Palestinian citizenship to the Jewish peace advocate, Mony Ovadia, in appreciation of his supportive positions for the Palestinian right and his continuous struggle to expose the policies of the occupying state. In turn, Ovadia expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President for this kind gesture, affirming that being awarded honorary Palestinian citizenship is the most beautiful and precious gift he has received in his eighty years of life, stressing his constant feeling of belonging to Palestine and his continued journey in defending justice and exposing Israeli occupation practices.
In a press statement, the secretary of the Fatah Movement – Italy Region, Dr. Imad Ali, confirmed that President Abbas's visit reflected the political standing of the State of Palestine and succeeded in conveying the Palestinian narrative to various components of the Italian political scene, including government, opposition, civil society forces, solidarity movements, and communities.
Dr. Ali added that the meetings focused on formulating a more effective Italian position within the European Union and pressing for the recognition of the State of Palestine, stopping aggression, and ending occupation, emphasizing that Italy is capable of playing a pivotal and influential role in this direction if a unified European stance is achieved.
He noted that granting honorary Palestinian citizenship to peace advocate Mony Ovadia carries a clear political and moral message confirming that the Palestinian cause is a matter of justice and freedom and is supported by the free people of the world from various religions and backgrounds.
The secretary of the Fatah Movement – Italy Region concluded his statement by emphasizing that the movement will continue its organized political and popular work, reinforce partnerships with supporting Italian forces, and work on translating the results of this visit into tangible practical steps in support of the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle until they achieve their complete national rights.
