During the meeting, President Mahmoud Abbas granted honorary Palestinian citizenship to the Jewish peace advocate, Mony Ovadia, in appreciation of his supportive positions for the Palestinian right and his continuous struggle to expose the policies of the occupying state. In turn, Ovadia expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President for this kind gesture, affirming that being awarded honorary Palestinian citizenship is the most beautiful and precious gift he has received in his eighty years of life, stressing his constant feeling of belonging to Palestine and his continued journey in defending justice and exposing Israeli occupation practices. In a press statement, the secretary of the Fatah Movement – Italy Region, Dr. Imad Ali, confirmed that President Abbas's visit reflected the political standing of the State of Palestine and succeeded in conveying the Palestinian narrative to various components of the Italian political scene, including government, opposition, civil society forces, solidarity movements, and communities.
