Duraf: Saudi Crown Prince's Initiative and Meeting with Trump a "Real Opportunity" to End the War
SadaNews - Sudanese Minister of Justice Abdullah Duraf stated that the initiative announced by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman following his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump could represent a "real opportunity" to revive the Jeddah platform and achieve tangible progress in ending the war that has been ongoing in Sudan for more than two and a half years.
The Sudanese minister affirmed on the sidelines of the 23rd Doha Forum, which began last Saturday and lasted for two days, that this opportunity comes amid the failure of most previous mediations, the absence of a unified vision, and the continuation of what he described as a "total aggression" waged by regionally supported militias against Sudanese cities.
Duraf pointed out that the crimes being committed exhibit a pattern of violations, including mass massacres, targeting civilians and infrastructure, culminating in an attack on a kindergarten that resulted in the death of 43 children, emphasizing that the principle of "accountability" remains a fundamental pillar of the Sudanese government's work.
Sudan has been engulfed in a war that broke out on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces, following disputes over the integration of the latter into the armed forces, with fighting beginning in the capital Khartoum and spreading to various parts of the country.
