Bar Association: Captives in Occupation Prisons Are Subjected to the Harshest Forms of Organized Torture and Slow Death
SadaNews - The Palestinian Bar Association stated in a press release issued this evening, following recent reports regarding the assault and vandalism suffered by the captive leader Marwan Barghouti, that the captives in the occupation prisons are subjected to the harshest forms of torture, systematic abuse, and slow death in the absence of the most basic elements of oversight or the facilitation of visits from concerned international organizations.
The association pointed out that the degrading conditions of human dignity experienced by the Palestinian captive inside the occupation prisons, along with the ongoing physical assaults against the captives and the resulting deaths of dozens over the past two years, confirm the official government system’s complicity under the occupation authorities in systematically perpetuating these crimes, constituting gross violations of international agreements.
The association affirmed that this serious and ongoing escalation against the captives comes amid the occupation authorities' prohibition on international bodies, especially the International Red Cross, from visiting the prisons, as well as the deprivation of families of their right to visit.
The association indicated that the international community and concerned international organizations must act urgently to monitor and closely observe all these circumstances and assaults targeting the captives and symbols of the captive movement, led by the captive leader Marwan Barghouti, amid indications of continuous targeting aimed at inflicting physical and moral harm upon him. It emphasized that the world is required to work diligently to halt the policy of abuse against the captives and to pressure for their release, with a strict commitment to the relevant Geneva Conventions.
