The Head of the Bar Association: The Israeli Legislative System is Racing Against Time to Enforce Displacement and Systematic Oppression Projects and Deepen the Apartheid Situation

SadaNews - The head of the Palestinian Bar Association, attorney Fadi Abbas, stated that the legislative system of the occupying authorities, through the Parliament of the occupying state (the Knesset) and a number of military orders, is active in the context of solidifying racist legislations that contribute to creating a repulsive environment for Palestinians from the occupied land.

The Bar Association head indicated that anyone following the active legislative situation recently and the proposed laws in the corridors of the Knesset and its committees—which some have been approved and others are in progress—along with the continuous issuance of military orders, realizes what it entails in terms of reinforcing the necessary tools for further control over Palestinian lands, expanding settlement activities of all kinds, increasing oppression, and tightening the noose around the lives of Palestinians, which extend daily to more racist and extremist legislations, such as proposals related to imposing sovereignty, executing prisoners, banning Red Cross visits to prisoners, and dozens of other legislative proposals.

The Bar Association head warned of the declared and undeclared objectives of this legislative acceleration, which aims to legitimize the executive actions of the occupying authorities against the Palestinian land and people, as it comes within the framework of a strategic project aimed at the soft displacement of populations, deepening the apartheid situation, and imposing a reality that kills and destroys any path for any political settlement that aligns with international law, international treaties, and principles of justice and fairness, and grants the Palestinian people their most basic rights. He also expressed concern that targeting Palestinians through these legislative packages has become a commodity for use and marketing in the upcoming Israeli electoral scene.

The Bar Association head emphasized that this legislative machine and what it produces, in gross violation of international public law and its provisions, including the relevant Geneva Conventions, poses a blatant challenge to the declared will of many countries around the world. It also represents a clear challenge to the international system and its resolutions, including the justice system derived from it, placing it in a position of helplessness and inability to curb this transgression against international law and protect the purposes for which it was established.
