Five People Killed in Russian Attack on Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine

SadaNews - Ivan Fedorov, the governor of the Zaporizhzhia region in southeastern Ukraine, said late yesterday (Thursday) that a Russian attack resulted in the death of five people and injured three others.

Photos posted by Fedorov online showed buildings engulfed in flames and streets filled with debris.

The governor had earlier issued a warning about an imminent Russian attack with guided bombs.

Russia announced on Thursday the capture of the city of Kupiansk in northeastern Ukraine, one of the cities where Russian forces have made advances in recent weeks amid difficulties faced by Ukrainian troops at the front.

Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov stated during a visit by President Vladimir Putin to one of the command centers that Russian forces "continue to expand their area of control" in the Dnipropetrovsk (southeast) and Zaporizhzhia (south) regions, where they have advanced in recent weeks.

On Thursday, Ukraine announced that it had received from the United States a "draft plan" to end the war with Russia, affirming its readiness to work in a "constructive" manner with Washington.

On another note, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Friday, that 33 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed over five Russian regions, the Crimean Peninsula, and the Black Sea overnight. According to the Russian aviation monitoring authority, at least eight Russian airports were forced to suspend operations overnight. A local emergency center reported that two people were injured in the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia, and classes were suspended in schools and kindergartens due to the drone attack.
