Geneva: The International Labor Conference Renewed Its Support for Palestine and Rejected Attempts to Undermine Its Membership Status

SadaNews - The International Labor Conference, during its 114th session held in Geneva, renewed its support for Palestine and rejected attempts to cancel its status as a member within the International Labor Organization.

The majority of member states rejected the request made by Israel, supported by the United States and Argentina, to overturn the decision regarding Palestine's observer status with certain powers within the organization.

The decision came amid wide support from participating delegations, as the conference hall witnessed a standing ovation following the announcement of the results, reflecting the extent of international support for Palestinian rights and Palestine's standing within the organization.

Voting results showed that the quorum reached 296 votes, while the majority required 206 votes, and the State of Palestine received 394 votes in favor, compared to 17 votes against, while 42 members abstained from voting.

This achievement is a new confirmation of the status Palestine holds within the international organization, despite the pressures and attempts made by the occupying authorities and their allies to influence the course of discussion and voting.

Shaher Saad, the Secretary-General of the General Union of Palestinian Workers, praised this achievement, considering it a confirmation of the advanced status that Palestine now enjoys within international institutions and the growing support for the rights of its people and workers in various international forums.

Saad commended the efforts made by members of the Palestinian delegation from all its components, including representatives of workers, the government, and employers, emphasizing that working in a spirit of teamwork and mutual coordination contributed to achieving this success and enhancing the Palestinian presence within the International Labor Organization.

He also expressed gratitude to the Arab and international friendly delegations that stood by Palestine during various stages of discussion and voting, contributing to affirming its rights and status within the organization despite political challenges and pressures.

Saad affirmed that this achievement reflects Palestine's continued ability to achieve political, labor, and diplomatic successes despite the exceptional circumstances faced by the Palestinian people, stressing that the voice of Palestinian workers will remain present and influential in various international platforms in defense of their national and labor rights, and of the values of freedom, justice, and dignity.
