SadaNews - The Israeli occupation police arrested today, Wednesday morning, the former Secretary-General of the National Democratic Assembly party, Awad Abdul-Fattah.
According to initial available information, the police stormed Abdul-Fattah's home in the village of Kawkab Abu al-Hija in the Galilee region, in the north of the country, and took him for interrogation on the grounds of "incitement to terrorism."
Local sources reported that "the police officers searched the home, destroyed some contents, confiscated several books and publications, the Palestinian flag, personal items, and wreaked havoc on the property's belongings."
Lawyer Nimir Idlbi, who is representing leader Awad Abdul-Fattah, informed "Arab 48" that the police arrested Abdul-Fattah from his home in the village of Kawkab Abu al-Hija this morning and took him for interrogation.
Idlbi added that he sent an official letter to the police demanding clarification of the reasons for the arrest and its legal background.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Assembly, Yusuf Tattour, told "Arab 48" that "the police stormed the house of the former Secretary-General of the National Democratic Assembly, leader and comrade Awad Abdul-Fattah, and informed the family that Abdul-Fattah was taken to the police station in the city of Shafa Amr."
He confirmed that "we, in turn, contacted the Adalah legal center and lawyer Nimir Idlbi, who is representing leader and comrade Awad Abdul-Fattah."
Tattour concluded his remarks by stating that "we will follow up on this political arrest case to the end, and it will be proven to be a political persecution, as happened with the leader and comrade Hanin Zoabi, the leader of the Popular Movement Raji Ighbariah, and journalist Said Hassanein, due to their opposition to the genocide against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the aggression in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem."
