Sudan: Violent Explosions in Omdurman Coinciding with Drone Flights
SadaNews - Press sources reported that violent successive explosions echoed in the north of Omdurman early this Wednesday, coinciding with drone flights.
It was added that clouds of smoke rose from the explosion sites, and that the ground defenses of the Sudanese army repelled the drones.
The sources pointed out that the type of drones used in the attack is still unknown, whether they were strategic or tactical, and that the Sudanese army has not commented on the attacks as of this moment.
They stated that the attack on Omdurman (one of the three capitals along with Khartoum and Khartoum Bahri) comes just 24 hours after similar aerial assaults in the Al-Dabba area in northern Sudan, where local sources reported that the area was attacked by strategic drones that resulted in the deaths of 5 people and targeted the College of Engineering.
This attack also follows similar drone strikes yesterday, Tuesday, in the Ad Babikr area east of Khartoum, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the injury of two others.
Later this morning, Sudanese military sources spoke to Al Jazeera about the destruction of several Rapid Support Forces headquarters in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur.
It is noteworthy that Sudan has been experiencing a bloody war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April 2023, resulting so far in the deaths of more than 20,000 people and the displacement and refugee exodus of more than 15 million, according to United Nations data.
