Arrest of Haneen Zoabi on Charges of "Incitement to Terrorism"
SadaNews - Israeli occupation police arrested the former MK and leader of the National Democratic Assembly, Haneen Zoabi, from her home in the city of Nazareth in the Galilee region, northern Israel, on the charge of "incitement to terrorism," this Sunday morning.
The director of the "Adalah" Center, attorney Dr. Hassan Jabareen, stated that "the police arrested Haneen Zoabi from her home in Nazareth this morning, and up until this moment we do not know the details of the investigation, but they informed her, as she told me, that they had taken her to Tiberias for questioning on suspicion of incitement to terrorism and supporting terrorist organizations."
Jabareen added, "It is clear to me that this detention is illegal because she could have been summoned in a normal and natural manner by specifying a time and place for investigation without arresting her or coming early in the morning to her family’s home accompanied by six police officers for such suspicions."
He concluded by saying that "the legality of the detention will be a central part of this case if the authorities request to extend the arrest."
The Democratic Front and the Communist Party: The Arrest of Haneen Zoabi Falls Under Political Persecution and Intimidation
The Democratic Front and the Communist Party condemned the "arrest of the former MK and leader in the National Democratic Assembly party, Haneen Zoabi, this Sunday morning at the hands of police forces, which have intensified their role as a political police over the past two years; and now implementing the orders of their minister, Kahanist Itamar Ben Gvir."
The statement said, "The arrest, according to reports, is under the so-called 'incitement to terrorism' while the government of Benjamin Netanyahu and its ruling coalition are filled with elements of terrorist backgrounds, some of whom have been convicted in Israeli courts of supporting terrorism. We reject these alleged charges against comrade Haneen Zoabi, which serve as a cover for intimidation and political pursuit, criminalizing political work among our Arab community, as well as among progressive forces opposing the occupation and the genocide war."
The Democratic Front and the Communist Party warned against "the continued escalation of the ruling establishment, through its arms, the political police and the General Security Service (Shabak), in continuing to tighten the noose on our natural right to political action and to struggle against this government and its crimes, and we call for the immediate release of comrade Haneen Zoabi and to stop all these pursuits that are being carried out at the behest of followers of Meir Kahane."
The Arab Democratic Party Condemns the Arrest
The Arab Democratic Party condemned the "unlawful arrest of former MK Haneen Zoabi" and called for her "immediate release and cessation of political persecution."
