How Does President Trump's Helicopters Travel Across Continents?

Helicopters known as "Marine One" are transported internationally on U.S. Air Force cargo planes such as the C-5A or C-17, according to CNN.

They are part of Marine Helicopter Squadron One, which operates VH-60N White Hawk and SH-3D Sea King helicopters, as well as MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft.

The squadron deploys up to 5 helicopters when the president travels by air, with the president on one of them, while the others are used for camouflage for security reasons, according to the George W. Bush Presidential Library.

While the presidential limousine is also used for foreign trips, "Marine One" is often considered more practical for short presidential trips - both international and domestic - as motorcades can be logistically challenging and more expensive, according to the Bush Library.

Andrews Air Force Base and Camp David

When the president leaves Washington, D.C., he boards the helicopter from the South Lawn of the White House to Andrews Air Force Base where his presidential plane awaits him.

He also uses the helicopter to reach Camp David, the presidential retreat in western Maryland. While the U.S. presidential plane transports the president to the airport, "Marine One" is often used to transport the president around the region he is traveling in, especially if helicopters are more suitable for the activities he is engaged in, such as surveying areas after disasters.

Each time it lands, the president is greeted by an armed Marine guard in a blue naval uniform.
