Trump Angry With Netanyahu: Beirut Strike Delayed Agreement With Iran
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he sent a stern message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the Israeli strike on Beirut, expressing his displeasure that it was carried out shortly before the expected signing of an agreement with Iran.
Trump added, in statements to Channel 12 of Israel, that he was not satisfied with the military operation, considering that its timing angered him, especially since it came just before reaching what he described as an important agreement.
Trump said: "Why did Bibi carry out this strike?" adding that Hezbollah's gunfire did not result in injuries, and that the Israeli response in Beirut greatly displeased him.
He pointed out that he clearly communicated his position to Netanyahu, considering that the decision did not show enough regard for the consequences.
Trump revealed that he received notice of the attack about an hour before the scheduled time to sign the agreement with Iran, saying: "They called me and informed me that Israel was attacking Beirut, and I couldn’t believe it was happening."
Despite this, the U.S. president expressed his belief that the agreement with Iran is still ready to be signed in the coming hours, despite the delay caused by the attack.
Trump clarified that the proposed agreement includes guarantees that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons, allowing inspections of suspicious sites within a 24-hour timeframe, in addition to eliminating Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium, considering that the agreement is "good for Israel."
Trump had written on the Truth Social platform: "The attack on Beirut this morning should not have happened, especially on such an important day as we are very close to reaching a peace agreement with Iran."
He added: "Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the fire it was responding to was extremely limited and insignificant, causing no injuries or deaths, and it should not disrupt this important process."
The U.S. president continued: "We are very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all parties should step back."
He emphasized that: "There should be no further attacks from Israel anywhere in Lebanon, and there should be no further attacks from any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel."
Trump concluded: "This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace, so don't spoil it!"
