Israel Launches Airstrikes on Southern Beirut Suburb (Video)

SadaNews - The Israeli occupation army launched airstrikes on the southern suburb of Beirut on Sunday, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized their intolerance for fire from Hezbollah.

The Israeli army stated in a statement: "We have just accurately targeted infrastructure belonging to the terrorist group Hezbollah in the southern suburb of Beirut."

The army added: "Following the directives of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the Israeli army is currently conducting airstrikes on targets belonging to Hezbollah in the Beirut suburb area, in response to fire from Hezbollah towards Israeli territories."

The army mentioned that three drones, suspected to have been launched by Lebanese Hezbollah in separate operations on Sunday, entered Israeli airspace, with two crashing in northern Israel without any injuries reported.

In a statement, the army reported detecting the fall of "two suspicious objects" in Israeli territory near the border with Lebanon, stating that "no injuries were recorded."

In a later separate statement, the army said that "another hostile aircraft" penetrated the airspace in northern Israel.

In a joint message from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, they stated: "Israel will not tolerate fire directed at its territory."

Before the announcement of the third drone, two right-wing ministers called for bombarding the southern suburb of Beirut, Hezbollah's stronghold.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich posted on X: "Fire on northern population centers is a test of the southern suburb doctrine announced by Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu), which is to strike the southern suburb of Beirut if Hezbollah targets the northern areas of Israel."

He added: "I call on him to implement it firmly and forcefully, and to demolish buildings in the suburb."

The far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir wrote on X: "For every drone or missile, and for every violation of the ceasefire, the suburb must tremble."

Israeli officials, including the Prime Minister, have previously warned that Israel would target the southern suburb of Beirut if Iran-backed Hezbollah attacked population centers in northern Israel, a stance they say enjoys support from Washington.
